Tim Barteau

Trustee

Tim is an attorney with Ragghianti Freitas, a longstanding Marin Firm with deep roots in the community. A graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, and Indiana University School of Law – Bloomington, Tim dedicated his time during and immediately after law school to offices of the Public Defender in Santa Fe, New Mexico; Salem, Indiana; and Contra Costa County, California. Tim went on to litigate complex civil matters for many years. However, after obtaining his LL.M. in Taxation and an Estate Planning Certificate, Tim chose to focus his career on the complex field of probate law, and primarily on estate planning and trust, estate and conservatorship litigation and administration. Tim is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law, as recognized by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization.

During his undergraduate studies in Santa Cruz, Tim had the privilege of learning from and working with recognized scholars in the fields of American and International protest politics, social movements, and social justice. In Law School, Tim was a member and ultimately the Vice President of the Public Interest Law Foundation and volunteered his time with Protective Order Project. In his early legal Career, Tim had the opportunity to further his interest in social justice by helping indigent defendants navigate the criminal justice system while also assisting with larger projects aimed at identifying de jure racial bias in that same system.

Raised in Marin, Tim feels fortunate to now be able to work, live and raise his family in this community. While appreciative of the many benefits of Marin County, Tim has also long been aware of the many barriers in place that prevent it from being a more equitable and diverse community. Tim hopes to bring to bear his legal education and experience, and passion for social justice, to help further the mission and goals of Mt. Tam CLT.
